Ever heard the saying, “too heavenly minded, no earthly good?”

Lately, I’ve been contemplating the place of health, wellness, exercise, etc. in Christianity. I’ve come to the conclusion that it is essential. Now, don’t misunderstand me; this post is not to bash fat people, nor is it a step towards the hyper-charismatic “name it-claim it” application to health. Sixty-One Years Ago. . .

My grandfather, affectionately known as “papa,” was born during the Great Depression, grew up in the shadows of WWII and anticipation of the Korean conflict. In 1950, he delivered a salutatorian speech during his High School graduation in a little town in East Oklahoma. Many of the themes in this speech echo sentiments toward current affairs.
